FC 27 Career Mode Transfers: Stages, Clauses and Instalments

Transfer stages, clauses, instalments and contracts in FC 27 Manager Career, explained.

Updated — from EA's FC 27 Career Mode deep dive and Title Update 1.0.4

EA calls FC 27's Manager Career transfer market one of the biggest transfer upgrades in the series. Deals now move through stages over days, rival clubs can hijack them, and you have many more tools: deal timing, loan-backs, player exchanges, instalments, bonuses, and buy-back, first-refusal and sell-on clauses. Here is how all of it works, from EA's FC 27 Career Mode deep dive.

Transfer stages

  1. Enquiry. Every move starts by asking the club or the player, whether it is a transfer, a loan, a free agent or a player near the end of their contract. After a short wait you get an answer that opens talks or ends them.
  2. Negotiation. Once you have permission, talks with the selling club and the player happen at the same time. You can hand the whole thing to your Director of Football.
  3. It can reopen. Even after an agreement, interest from rival clubs can bring new demands from the club or the player and send you back to the table.

Selling works the same way: offers arrive over time, you accept, reject, negotiate or delegate, and when the buyer and the player have agreed you get one last chance to push for better terms. Whether that works depends on how many other clubs want the player.

Deal options and clauses

  • Deal timing: the move happens now, in the next window, or at the start of next season.
  • Loan-back: the player you signed stays at their old club for a while.
  • Player exchange: put one of your players into the deal to cut the fee.
  • Instalments: spread the fee over several seasons; you choose how much to defer and over how many payments.
  • Achievement bonuses: extra payments tied to club achievements, awards or the player's performance.
  • Buy-back, first refusal and sell-on clauses keep a selling club's interest in a player after they leave: buy them back for an agreed fee, match a future offer, or take a share of the next fee.
  • Release clauses are still there.

Contracts and wages

Alongside wages, length, sign-on and agent fees, you now agree a squad role, and a player expects the playing time that comes with it. Break that promise and there are consequences. You can add performance bonuses for appearances, goals, assists or clean sheets, and clauses that raise wages automatically after promotion or European qualification, or cut them after a setback. Wage demands now depend on the gap in prestige between clubs, your finances, the player's career stage and, at renewal, how much their rating has changed.

The new transfer screens

The Transfer Hub is split into Scouting and Transfers. Active Negotiations keeps every deal, sale and renewal in one place with its status; an Interest indicator shows how keen a player is; Lists holds your shortlist, transfer list, loan list and blocked offers; Contracts & Clauses tracks bonuses and instalments still to pay or receive. Negotiations happen on a new 2D screen with a tension meter that shows how close a deal is to agreement or collapse, and you can walk away at any time. A signing ends with a reveal: small deals get a signing, the biggest a stadium presentation, with fans' reactions on social media.

How AI clubs and players decide

Player values come from a new model built with TransferRoom's Expected Transfer Value (xTV) and change over seasons. AI clubs now think about rivalries: historic rivals and local derby clubs rarely deal with each other, and clubs in the same multi-club ownership group deal more. Players weigh club stature, the league, wages, contract, European football and even a return to their home country. AI clubs do much more business, Deadline Day lasts twenty hours with a new two-hour skip, and free agents who stay unsigned for long enough retire.

Fixed since launch

Title Update 1.0.4 changed the market: bidding far above a club's asking price now gets a response instead of an instant yes, free agents can be signed again with the market closed, CPU counter-offers no longer go above their own asking fee, and fewer very high-rated or high-potential players are generated. FC 27 patch notes has every update.
